Prof. Lee and Prof. Liao's Comment Published in Nature Reviews Materials Recently, the review article Materials Science in China (Nat. Rev. Mater., 2016, 1, 16025.) written by our university's FUNSOM Academician Shuit-Tong Lee and Professor Liang-sheng Liao at the invitation of Nature Reviews Materials was formally published online. It is the first time that our university's scientific researchers publish review articles on Nature Reviews series journals (as the first unit and the first author). Nature Reviews Materials is the first review journal initiated by Nature Publishing Group this year in the material science field following Nature Reviews Cancer (IF=37.4), Nature Reviews Drug Discovery (IF=41.908), Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology (IF=37.806) etc. Nature Reviews Materials specially publishes reviews, outlooks and critiques about the material science and technology field. It is reported that the critiques in this journal are aimed at proposing authoritative views on the hot issues and development tendency of the material science field. Since entering the 21st century, China's economy has become increasingly stronger, thus attracting more attention of the world to the development of China's material science and technology. This time, Academician Shuit-Tong Lee and Professor Liang-Sheng Liao were invited to make incisive discussions on the development situations of China's material sciencein the past 15 years from such three aspects as advantages, challenges and prospect. They think that China's forward-looking policies for scientific research, constantly improved research platforms, high-level talent plans and the huge domestic market have been the impetus for the rapid development of China's material science and technology in recent years. They also believe that China's material science and technology personnel will eventually stand on the cutting edge of world technology and make great contributions to China's and even the world's economic development. Introducing the development of China's material science and technology to the world through this important window - Nature Reviews Materials is significant. Liao's Group formed in 2009 has been led by Prof. Liang-Sheng (Larry) Liao in the Institute of Functional Nano and Soft Materials at Soochow University, which consists of three professor, a few post-doctoral researchers, more than twenty graduate students, and several undergraduates. The group mainly focuses on organic optoelectronic devices (including organic light-emitting diodes, organic solar cells, and perovskite solar cells), semiconductor device physics, nano materials, and organic chemistry. The group has state-of-the-art facilities for chemical synthesis, device fabrication, and characterization. New graduate students and researchers, who are majoring in physics, chemistry, and material sciences, are invited to join in the Liao group. |
